Dirt School (School holiday course)

Experience the thrill of off road riding with the whole family, or just send the kids!

If you’re looking for a family activity in the school holidays which will get everyone moving and outside, then try out the sport of mountain biking.

Our highly experienced coaches will take you through the key skills and techniques, get you moving safely and confidently on the rough stuff. You will receive loads of advice on where to ride and what equipment to use.

During the course, participants will benefit from the use of iPads and go-pros to get immediate feedback on their riding technique and skill progression. These photos and video clips will be available to be downloaded from our social media sites.

Course content includes:

  • Bike safety check and helmet fitting
  • Correct riding position (attack position) and basic bike set up
  • Correct gear selection
  • Slow riding and balance
  • Riding obstacles
  • Picking “a line”
  • Cornering
  • Ratcheting
  • Braking techniques
  • Wheelie lifts
  • Riding skinnies
  • Track stands
  • Jumps
  • KRUSH Bike maintenance workshop

Typical program

8.45 – 9:00am Arrival at course venue and complete paperwork
9:00 – 09:30am Course commences, introductions and equipment check
9:30 – 9:45am Warm-up ride and skills assessment
9.45 – 12.45pm Skills coaching sessions; morning tea break
12:45 – 13:30pm Lunch and KRUSH bike maintenance workshop
1.30 – 2.15pm Final skills session
2.15 – 2.45pm Open track – the track will be open for laps and video analysis.
2.45 – 3.00pm Awards and Review

All participants receive a RideAbility water bottle and have the chance to win prizes and giveaways. All participants MUST BE riding a minimum 24 inch, geared bike. This course is best suited to adults and girls and boys 8 – 16 years of age.

Our coaches are happy to discuss an Action Plan of what you need to do after your course to consolidate your new skills and progress your mountain biking into the future.

All participants receive 14 days free support if you have any questions about what you’ve learned or need any other advice.

A wet weather back-up day is always made available for this event. Please refer to our cancellation and refund policies on our website.

We have a fleet of Specialised Mountain bikes available to hire should you or your child require a bike.
